What’s the difference between an Arriflex 435 & Arriflex 435 ES?
Debuting in 1995, ARRI initially released two models of their Arriflex 435 MOS Super 35mm film camera; the 435 & 435 ES. Nearly identical in appearance & features, the 435 ES was equipped with an electronic mirror shutter as opposed to the manual mechanical shutter found in the standard 435. Aptly named for it’s electronic shutter (ES), camera operators were granted complete control of exposure compensation with the 435 ES’s continuously adjustable shutter angle from 11.2* to 180*, even while the camera is running! This increased flexibility in operation of the 435 ES reduced down time on productions by no longer having to stop the camera & manually adjust the shutter angle between takes.
